dicto for Institutions
dicto makes institutional purchases as easy as possible. Purchases are managed through Apple Business with local app store pricing. Silent deployment through MDM, nothing to configure, and no app data flows for your review process to assess.
Why institutions choose dicto
dicto displays speech as large, clear text for people who are hard of hearing, in WCAG AA rated color contrast (AAA at the sizes dicto displays). Staff speak; residents read, reducing the amount of speaking in raised voices. dicto's Solo feature focuses the app on displaying one enrolled voice, hands-free. There are no individual accounts to manage, no cloud to secure, no outside hardware requirements, and nothing to integrate: the app is the whole system.
The procurement review, answered
- Data protection: dicto collects no data. No accounts, no analytics, no tracking, no advertising identifiers. Speech is processed on the device and never transmitted; nothing survives the end of a session. See the Privacy Policy.
- GDPR: see the statement below.
- Security review: there is no server side to assess. dicto uses Apple's frameworks and its own bundled voice models; it contains no third-party SDKs, no analytics services, and no network features. The questions on your vendor questionnaire about data flows, breach handling, and subprocessors have the same short answer: no data leaves the device.
- Not a medical device: dicto is not a medical device and is not subject to medical regulatory compliance. It is a general communication tool; it does not diagnose, treat, or monitor any condition.
- Makes compliance easy: dicto stores and transmits nothing, so displayed conversations never become records held by a vendor. Whatever privacy framework your region applies, there is no vendor data flow for it to attach to. Organizations subject to health-privacy rules (such as HIPAA in the United States) will find dicto is not a business associate, because it never receives information.
- Licensing: dicto's voice matching uses three open speaker models (pyannote community-1, WeSpeaker family, converted by FluidInference), licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 and credited inside the app. The license has no share-alike or copyleft terms; attribution is our obligation and is fulfilled within the product. Deploying organizations have no licensing obligations, fees, or follow-on requirements of any kind. No other third-party components are distributed with the app.
- Accessibility: every color combination meets the WCAG AA contrast standard, and at the sizes dicto displays, every combination meets AAA. VoiceOver is fully supported. On iPad, words are never split across lines - a detail that matters for readers with cognitive change.
- Offline operation: supported dictation languages and typing work with no connection at all, so dicto keeps working in basements, elevators, and rural facilities.
- Cost: one small one-time purchase per device at your country's App Store price. No subscription, no per-seat license, no renewal, no procurement cycle next year.
GDPR statement
dicto sends no personal data to BHB Technologies or to anyone else. All processing - dictation display, voice matching, and settings - happens on the device, under your organization's control. BHB Technologies receives nothing, stores nothing, and has no access to anything spoken, typed, or enrolled. Because no personal data reaches us, there is no data transfer to assess, no processor relationship to paper, and no data processing agreement required. The voice enrollment used by Solo is a set of numbers held in device memory for a single session and never written to storage; see the Privacy Policy for the full description.
How to buy and deploy - today
- Go to business.apple.com and sign in to Apple Business (formerly Apple Business Manager), or to Apple School Manager for education.
- Open Apps and Books, search for dicto, and enter the number of licenses you need. The price is the same as your country's App Store price - no quote, no waiting, and no additional contracts: licensing and distribution run entirely through your existing Apple relationship.
- Assign the licenses to your devices through your MDM; dicto installs silently, with nothing to configure on the device.
Small organizations without device management can simply install dicto from the App Store on each iPad or iPhone; the app needs no setup beyond its own onboarding. White-glove private app deployments are available at additional cost; see Working with us directly.
Working with us directly
For larger deployments we work with institutions directly: evaluation support, staff-facing documentation, and institution-specific capabilities such as simplified stable-text display for readers with cognitive change and facility-specific vocabularies. White-glove private app deployments are available at additional cost. If your deployment needs something dicto does not do today, that conversation is welcome.
